It’s official, we’re on the market!! Bittersweet indeed. But what that means is these past four weeks on top of Thanksgiving, sick kids, christmas decorating, christmas shopping, christmas parties and all of our normal 9 to 5er obligations we have been prepping our home to go on the market. Every weekend we’d tackle a different project.
Our first priority was our yard and the exterior. It’s no secret a well manicured exterior/yard is important in getting a home to sell. So while I was hauling kids around town to birthday parties on the weekend Hunter was home pressure washing our driveway, putting a fresh coat of paint on our deck, and making all of our white railings and pillars shine. On top of that, there was leaf blowing, tree trimming, mowing and most importantly a fresh delivery of pine needles.
Meanwhile on the inside I was DECLUTTERING. Holy crap we own WAY to much stuff. Anyone else feel that way? Especially with kids its unbelievable. James’s closet you could barely close because it was filled to the brim with old baby things like bathtubs, pack n plays, rock n plays, stroller parts….all things we don’t use but wanted to keep in hopes we have a third child. Our solution? A storage unit. Yep, so now we have a 5000 square foot home and a storage unit filled with crap…what the heck is wrong with us?
It was so nice though hauling this stuff out of here. Toys the boys don’t use, old baby stuff…all out!!. Now our closets and play rooms are nice and tidy!
And lastly we’ve been working on staging areas home. Finally finishing up rooms that we’ve been meaning to do for the past four years but because of one excuse after the other didn’t. Why is it that we finally get our homes to just perfect right before we move out of them. Sad really.
I’m actually sitting here typing this post in my new little office in our Master sitting area. I love it, but this room sat empty for the past four years. I mean, I could have put this room to some good use. It just wasn’t a priority.
And then there were beds for Hunter’s room. When we moved Hunter to a big boy bed we just placed the mattresses on the floor and actually intentionally didn’t get any bed frame for them. We liked the idea of him being closer to the floor in case he fell off as he was getting used to no railings. I’d say 3 years later he’s pretty secure in his bed now and we can no longer use that as an excuse…it was time to get the boy some beds. haha.
I could just envision it, people coming to look at our home and thinking to themselves…these people can afford a half a million dollar house but their mattresses are on the floor and they can’t afford beds. It was time. So glad prepping our home for sale whipped our butt into gear on some of these things.
Lastly their were some small home improvements. Luckily we didn’t have many but little things like re-caulking sinks in bathrooms or re-grouting showers always helps if they need to be done.
Oh, and we had the carpets cleaned!! You should have seen us the day of our Christmas party last Saturday. I was in the kitchen prepping food, Hunter was making runs to the storage unit, the carpet cleaners where upstairs doing their thing, and the pine needle guys were outside laying fresh pine needles. Not to mention the boys were running around trashing the place with toys. It was madness. Threw one heck of a Christmas party Saturday night, cleaned up on Sunday, and house went on the market on Monday. The answer is YES…we are totally crazy, but we work well under pressure and somehow, someway we always manage to get it all done.
Now say I prayer I don’t loose my mind trying to keep it clean while its on market. Oh yeah and that it sells fast! xo
